How Lithuanian inflation is measured
Statistics Lithuania publishes a monthly consumer price index covering a basket weighted towards housing, food, transport and utilities. Because Lithuania is in the euro area, Eurostat also publishes a harmonised index (HICP) that is calculated on common European rules so that it can be compared directly with Germany, France or Latvia. The two measures track each other closely but are not identical.

The formula
Equivalent value equals your original amount multiplied by the ending year index and divided by the starting year index. The calculator also reports the total cumulative change over the period and the average annual rate that would produce the same result.
Frequently asked questions
Can I calculate across the litas-to-euro changeover?
Yes. Amounts before 2015 are treated as litas and converted at the fixed official rate of 3.4528, so a result spanning the changeover is still meaningful.
Why does Lithuanian inflation differ from the euro area average?
Lithuania's basket carries a heavier weight on energy and food than the euro area as a whole, so global commodity swings show up more strongly in its national figure.
Which index should I use for a contract?
Use whichever index the contract names. If it does not specify, the Statistics Lithuania national CPI is the usual domestic reference; HICP is used for European comparisons.
